“According to Newman (2005) resilience is the ability to adapt when faced with tragedy, trauma, adversity, hardship and continuous significant life stressors. ”
When I went to see the psychologist today she mentioned that ‘resilience’ was a common thing that seemed to occur in brain injury. I’ve never appreciated how ‘resilient’ and ‘strong’ I could be. I think that’s something that this horrendous situation has brought up. It seems to be a fairly common trait in brain injury, its maybe activated by the brain when it’s in terrible situations as a coping mechanism.
